Mary Nell Mayo age 75 of Selma, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Lighthouse Rehab and Healthcare in Selma, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. George Wood officiating.

Interment will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Kathryn Mayo and a brother-in-law, Buddy Hardy.

She is survived by her sister, Kathyrn Hardy, nephews David (Ami) Hardy and Stewart (Sara) Hardy, and niece Angela Bjurman (Kevin), great-nieces and great-nephews Anna Hardy, Feagin Hardy, Hatchell Hardy, Kathryn Armstrong, Kinley Armstrong, Miles Hardy, and William Hardy as well as an Aunt and Uncle, Nettie Staggers and Rucker Staggers.

Mary Nell grew up in the Pleasant Hill community and went to school in Carlowville and graduated from Southside High School in 1968.

Mary Nell worked for many years at West Central Alabama Vocational Rehabilitation Center. While there she worked tirelessly as a fundraiser for the Easter Seals program.

Mary Nell blessed many lives through her immense calendar, recognizing birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant dates of the many people she loved, while also helping them to remember dates in their own loved ones’ lives.

Mary Nell enjoyed a wide circle of friends, especially a group known as “The Golden Girls”.

On fall Saturdays, she enjoyed cheering on the Crimson Tide, sharing a “Roll Tide” text with fellow avid fans.

For the last year and half, Mary Nell made her home at Lighthouse Rehabilitation Center, where she was loved and cared for in an especially kind and professional manner. The family would also like to express thanks to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice and personal caregivers, Princess Anderson, and Amelia Millhouse.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 3201 County Road 12 Sardis, Alabama 36775 or Shiloh Baptist Church 5441 Hwy 41 Sardis, AL 36775.
